Master Scheduling is the process that a master scheduler uses to create the master schedule. This includes but is not limited to how the generation, review, management and adjustments of a master schedule are done. Adjustments help ensure that the master schedule maintains a consistent and accurate schedule to build end items off of. While the Master Schedule helps a master scheduler build end items it also provides direction for MRP. To be clear the Master Production Schedule is the input that feeds the Material Requirements Plan (MRP). A Master Scheduler must continue to monitor the master production schedule so that the total amount contained in the master production schedules for each item contained within its respective product family is equivalent to the production plan for that specific product family. Master scheduling is also an input to rough-cut capacity planning.
