Dependent demand is the demand that is directly related to or derived from the bill of materials structure for other items or end products which are independent demand.
The dependent demand is blown down from the bill of materials in mrp. The demand is then calculated based on lead time, inventory and need date in order to build each level of the BOM and meet the end item requirements. Therefore forecasting should not be performed on dependent requirements.
